Why should I buy British flowers?

What do you mean by 'regenerative farming'?

Regenerative farming is an approach to agriculture designed to restore the health and productivity of land by mirroring well-functioning ecosystems. It involves keeping soil covered, trying to have living roots in soils, limiting soil disturbance, integrating livestock and growing a range of plants.  It's a bit like 'no-dig' gardening but goes a step further in multiple ways.

By nurturing the soil and enhancing soil health, we build up the foundation of our ecosystem.  For example, we're consciously feeding the soil's microbes and avoid disturbing the habitat.  Soil bacteria and fungi are eaten by macro-organisms like worms, who are the food of birds and mammals, like hedgehogs.

Soil microbes are also incredibly important for our flowers - their cycle nutrients and help our plants reach water and nutrients. They also help to create pores through the soil's profile so if it rains too much, the water can filter more easily and our plant's don't stand in cold wet soil (which they hate). Some bacteria and fungi are known to be involved in the fight against pests and disease, defending them against attack and triggering the plant's own defense mechanisms.

It's a fascinating approach to farming and while it's only been a few years since we moved here, we're already seeing our flowers and the wildlife flourishing.
